Synopsis:
Mrs Hallam rules her family with a rod of iron. everyone suffers when she is displeased. the only one who is not bowed down by her is StElla who is married to Mrs Hallam's youngest son Victor. Stella's nephew Jerry says he wants to be an architect but Mrs Hallam wont let him. StElla sides with Jerry. StElla and Jerry realise that they have something more than their mutual fight with the old woman. they leave the Hallam household together

Synopsis:
Bert Franken the head of a middle class Jewish family. the sex life of himself and his wife has petered out. the wife is attracted to the much younger music teacher, Barry. She invites Barry to spend the weekend with them. He arrives with an older woman, Mrs Grainger, who has a bad reputation. Also there for the weekend is Julian, Bert's handsome brother. Julian is gay but he has proposed to Kitty to hide this. Kitty is aware of his sexuality and as she does not want to have children and likes the rich life style has agreed to marry Julian. She is aware that Julian has a friend called Russell. However, when Julian flirts with Barry she realises that this will happen when they are married and breaks of the engagement
