Kevin R. Free is one of nytheatre.coms 15 people of the year for 2010, because of his outstanding, noteworthy contributions to the New York theatre scene. For the past 2 1/2 years, Kevin R. Free has been an ensemble member of the wildly prolific New York Neo-Futurists, writing, performing and directing in Too Much Light Makes The Baby Go Blind (30 Plays in 60 Minutes). Before that, he was an actor in several Off- and Off-Off-Broadway and Regional productions, including his own one-man show, Face Value, about an African-American Country singer. Somewhere in the middle of all that, he was one of the recipients of the NYIT Award for Outstanding Ensemble for his full-length Neo-Futurist play, (Not) Just A Day Like Any Other (co-written by Christopher Borg, Jeffrey Cranor, and Eevin Hartsough. Nowadays, he acts in plays and commercials; he hosts events; he narrates audiobooks; he directs students, and he writes, mostly about himself. His newest full-length play, A Raisin in the Salad: Black Plays for White People, was presented at FringeNYC in 2010.
