Neal J. Freeman is a writer, director, and producer based in New York City. He is a member of SDC and an Honors Directing graduate of Cornell University (BA, Theatre Arts and English, 1997). Neal received his MFA in directing from Brooklyn College in 2010. By day he serves as the Director of Digital and Technology for The Broadway League. Neal grew up in Baltimore, MD. Neal's play A Letter from Bataan received a 2010 seed grant from The Drama League Directors Project, was workshopped at the 2010 Lincoln Center Theater Directors Lab, and has been a semi-finalist for the Eugene O'Neill Center National Playwrights Conference in both 2012 and 2013. His mash-up of A Midsummer Night's Dream and Bram Stoker's novel Dracula played to strong houses in the 2013 NY International Fringe Festival and received a review and photo in The New York Times. Neal has also written plays on commission from Open Space Arts (Robin Hood) and The Ward Center for the Arts (Animal Farm), both in Baltimore, MD. For 10 years he served as a staff writer for The Great Doings Day, an annual outdoor giant puppet pageant for which he created original short works featuring cavemen, cowboys, pirates, superheroes, ducks, roosters, giant inchworms, and just about everything in between. Neal served as Executive Director of Brooklyn's The Gallery Players from 2009-2012, Executive Producing almost two dozen shows under the Actors' Equity showcase code during this time, and directing a dozen more. Other NYC directing credits include FringeNYC, Sonnet Repertory, Epic Theater Center, Ensemble Studio Theater, Naked Angels, and Engine37. Neal has worked as a director and assistant on original projects, often with Ridge Theater, at 45 Bleecker, Ensemble Studio Theatre, The Kasser Theatre at Montclair, Naked Angels, New World Stages, The Century Center, New York Theatre Workshop, BAM, St. Ann's Warehouse, Angel Orensanz, and The Lucille Lortel. From 1997-2004, Neal worked in Baltimore as a director, writer, and performer, serving as an assistant to directors Irene Lewis, George Faison, and David Schweizer at Baltimore's CENTERSTAGE and appearing in Lewis' productions of Mary Stuart and Sweeney Todd.

Synopsis:
