Fred Gaines (August 28, 1937 - April 19, 2010) will be remembered as a playwright, a collaborator, and a champion of theater. On May 27, 1961, Fred married Judith Lindgren. He graduated from the University of Nebraska and continued his education with graduate degrees in Theatre from the University of Nebraska and the University of Manchester in England with a PhD from the University of Minnesota. He also continued as a playwright and has had plays produced in many professional theaters across this country as well as several in Europe. He received many fellowships in playwriting including a Fullbright, a McKnight, a Eugene O'Neill and a Guggenheim. He received a National Endowment for the Arts Award and a Wisconsin Arts Award in Playwriting and held the Barber Professorship in Theatre and Drama at Lawrence. He was named to the Grand Island High School Hall of Honor and received the Outstanding Alumni Achievement Award from the University of Nebraska College of Fine and Performing Arts.

Christmas Carol, A
Synopsis:
This classic Christmas tale is reenergized to include a doll toting girl, and recreate the role of ebenezer Scrooge making him less an evil tyrant and more a gentle old man with psychological hang-ups. This interpretation of a Christmas Carol leans toward being a study of the character of Scrooge while still playing out our favorite Holiday tale of the magic of Christmas.
