Synopsis:
Photographs and drawings examining the fragile limits and violence too often present in intimate partner relationships. Much of Gardellas work explores the boundaries between fictive and documentary photography. In Gray Shapeless Monster, using actors posed by her direction, she traces humanistic and personal concerns driven by a commitment to social justice and her experience as an emergency room advocate for survivors of domestic violence. In this role she confronts ideas of love and promise malformed.
