Elgar's Tenth Muse

Elgar's Tenth Muse
Is public adulation always accompanied by private disappointment? Is creative fulfilment necessarily at odds with personal happiness? What is the price of fame? In these three biographical scenarios - about Janis Joplin, Edward elgar and Oscar Wilde repectively - Nigel Gearing explores the often droll disparity between the satisfying structures we call art and the infinitely more messy rag-and-bone shop of the heart

Far from being deserted, the chateau is teeming with life - young people and children - who have gathered to attend the wedding of Franz de Galais. augustin is welcomed by the group as an old friend and although the wedding is mysteriously cancelled and the group leaves - he meets Yvonne, the sister of Franz and falls madly in love with her. This Child

This Child
This child will give me strength Im going to show them just who I am Im going to show them that Im not who they think I am. everyone is someones child; every family has its own story. Drawing on interviews with real parents bringing up their children on a housing estate in Normandy, this play is remarkable in its intensity and truth. In a series of conversations and confrontations This Child exposes the complexities of parent/child relationships. Scenes of passion, blame and awkwardness are followed in quick succession by moments of tenderness and understanding in a poignant examination of this most fundamental of human bonds. I didnt choose you. I didnt choose to have a Father like you. I didnt choose you either. I didnt choose to have a son like you. a major critical success in the original French, This Child won the Critics association award for Best Play in 2006
