Drama Club         Shakespeare On Trial         Tap Dreams

Drama Club

Synopsis:
as auditions for the school play begin, members of the Drama club hear a voice from the back of the auditorium claiming to be the director, Mr. John Shakespeare - a character they made up to get permission to put on the play! The plot is complicated by the unrequited love of several of the students, a club member who lapses into characters from plays mentioned and the possibility the Mr. Shakespeare might be the ghost of alice's father! Since some of the exits, entrances and character positions are in the rear of the auditorium, the audience is drawn quickly into solving the mystery of just who is John Shakespeare. With themes of love, competition, aspirations and dreams, this fast-paced, bare-stage play is ideal for high school students.

Shakespeare On Trial

Synopsis:
With graduation fast approaching, two groups of students of Bellefonte High confront each other in an attempt to influence the next year's curriculum of the school. With recollections of past bullying, revealed secret lives, hinted-at romances, and numerous quotations from Shakespeare's most famous plays, these teenagers set up a mock trial to decide if Shakespeare should be studied next year. Like current day Montagues and Capulets, the students do plenty of verbal fencing -- with a little Romeo and Juliet romance thrown in -- to ultimately decide if the Bard is worthy of teens' time! The flexible casting provides opportunities for some wonderful soliloquies as well as smaller roles for actors seeking less responsibility. additionally, members from the audience may play some of the jurors.

Tap Dreams

Synopsis:
Tap Dreams is an all female cast, one set play about four diverse women (any ethnicity) whose search for an escape from the reality of their lives has brought them together in the dressing room of a tap class. While their backgrounds range from a nun to an illiterate country wife, they share the universal longing to achieve a childhood dream. These dreams differ, sometimes clash, and are not easily accepted by the others but each holds on through her own struggle to move closer to an understanding of the other women and a final acceptance of herself. Universal struggles, these do not always accept the "politically correct," simple solutions. The plot centers on an abusive family relationship for Betty who refuses to give up the dream of a loving family, for Sister Joan, a struggle with vows for a nun perusing a priest, for Heather, a life-threatening condition for a woman who has the perfect family, and for Maxine, the overcoming of a deceased mother's opinions while not growing to hate her. It's an upbeat play about four women who chose life in spite of suffering.
