Joe is a New York City and CT - based playwright. He was born in Boston, MA, and raised in North Tarrytown (now Sleepy Hollow), N.Y. After graduating from Lehigh University, Joe taught English and Theater at the Peddie School in Hightstown, N.J., for four years before moving for a brief period to Los Angeles, where he studied with the legendary cartoon voice, Mel Blanc. Returning to Manhattan, Joe studied acting with Austin Pendleton and Uta Hagen, and acted in over two dozen productions with the St. Barts Players in New York and other off-Broadway companies, while also enjoying a career as a voice-over performer. Joe's first professional production as a playwright was his comedy, THE CALL BACK, in 1979 at Manhattan Punch Line Theatre. Some of his one-act and full-length plays include: A QUEER CAROL, published in PLAYS & PLAYWRIGHTS 2003 (edited by Martin Denton), CLAPTRAPP  THE SOUND OF MUSICALS, (published in BEST OF EATFEST, Vol. 3  United Stages), THE MISSION, (winner, 2010 Fresh Fruit Festival, NYC, winner Briefs, Theatre Out, CA 2011), MASSAGE THERAPY, (runner-up, Eric Bentley new play competition), IN GOOD FAITH, BED & BREAKFAST, COHN CROSSES OVER, BEEP!, THE CALL BACK, SWAN SONG, FLIGHT, ROMANCE LANGUAGE. Joe is a member of Emerging Artists Theatre (NYC), Dramatists Guild, Alliance of Los Angeles Playwrights, TOSOS, AEA, SAG, AFTRA.

Queer Carol, A

Queer Carol, A
a gay take on Charles Dicken's "a Christmas Carol". Ben Scrooge was badgered by his Father for not being like other boys and grew up hating himself and his sexuality. He is further embittered when his partner Jake Marley dies from aIDS. Ben is an interior designer who over works his assistant Bob Cratchit who is struggling to care for his partner Tim who has been diagnosed HIV+. Scrooge angrily dismisses an aIDS charity worker who was collecting funds and this sets in motion a chain of ghostly visitors. Jake and the Ghost of Christmas Past - who is Marilyn Monroe and the Ghost of Christmas and Future - a black drag queen.
