Burying Miss America
Synopsis:
at a funeral home in the fourth largest town in Nebraska, siblings Boxer and Jeanie Russell meet for the first time in six years. Boxer has returned to attend the funeral of their mother, a former Miss America; the visit is his first appearance back home since leaving for New York the day after his high school graduation. Jeanie has never left Nebraska, living at home with her mother and the two children she was left to raise after her divorce. Boxer is a talented jazz musician, content to live a poor, itinerant life in Manhattan. they rarely speak, and Boxer's only communication is a monthly postcard. It is, by turns, funny, touching, provocative, poetic and savage.
