Synopsis: | The liar of the title is one Lelio, a young Venetian of good family who returns home after a long absence and is immediately embroiled in a series of hilarious escapades. Lelio's problem is that he seems unable to speak the truth when a whopping lie suits his purposes betterand the more the resultant complications multiply the more outlandish his fibs become. Before long he has thrown the budding romances of two lovely young sisters into a turmoil, discredited their rightful suitors, deceived his own befuddled father (who has not yet recognized him), and created such a tangle of misunderstandings that it appears doubtful whether things can ever be set straight. But, happily enough, the truth does ultimately triumphand with all the verve and high comic style which has characterized the play throughout.

Synopsis: | This hilarious adaptation takes stock Commedia del'Arte characters and reimagines them as archetypes from 1930s gangster films. Set in Prohibition-era Chicago in the 1930s, this version finds an aspiring wiseguy in a heap of trouble when he finds himself working for both a beautiful woman disguised as her brother and the brutal Public Enemy Number One who is trying to become a reformed man. Synopsis: | madcap farce, heroic romance, operetta and dramatic duelling with a feminist slash. Goldoni's simple but convoluted story turns on two sets of lovers, two impossible fathers and manipulative servants -.As adapted by Constance Congdon, this SERVANT jumps from formal language and fractured Latin gags to familiar phrases (`sweet bird of youth' and `a palpable hit') to American slang - a silly, stylish tour of comedy's infinite variety. Synopsis: | The action centers on the efforts of an out-of-work servant who makes his way in life by hiring himself out simultaneously to two employers, keeping each ignorant of his other job. Unknowingly, he has thrust himself into a world of disguises, broken marriage contracts, duels, and incorrectly delivered letters. The struggles of this upwardly mobile innocent to keep afloat in a world he scarcely comprehends creates a 'man-versus-society' comment as hilariously valid today as it was in 1745
