Synopsis:
Blacks have been leaving rural Mississippi just after World War II in droves. Not "Prince" albert - he likes it here. a poor sharecropper - but a strong and gifted farmer - he is proud of his leadership and standing. When he finds out that his wife is pregnant after ten barren years, he decides to fulfill a dream, to fix up and put fresh white paint on his little tenant house. That simple notion turns his world upside down. He soon finds out that many people, not only the whites in town - even his wife, his buddy just out of the army, his sexy sister-in-law, and his Preacher - don't want him to do it. Some are determined to stop him. as the cotton-growing season progresses, passions break out, and resentment and fear gather like a dark summer storm, shattering family and community, ending in a harrowing and unexpected act of violence which, in spite of its pain, brings a new bloom of love and redemption.
