Mistresses
Synopsis:
Stories of love, lust and laughter by JOAN GReeNING. Nell Gwynn's story is told by a London prostitute who both envies and loathes Nellie for her success with Charles II. they are both actresses during the time of the Restoration and were deadly rivals on the stage. Queen Adelaide relates her heartbreak at William IV's continuing desire for the dead Dorothy Jordan. His passion is unabated and he wants to procure a great honour for his deceased mistress. the Queen's anger is understandable but comic. Lillie Langtry is lighthearted about her affair with Edward VII and many others. She makes an important decision about her future helped by Oscar Wilde. Her zest for life is entrancing and uplifting. Fanny Cornforth is constant in her love for Dante Gabriel Rossetti and her jealousy of Elizabeth Siddal is a constant irritant to her. Who will be the winner in this love triangle? Does Fanny triumph over Elizabeth only to come up against a more dangerous rival. Jane Morris - dark looks, dark personality appears to win Rossetti's heart but who will prevail in the end - all is fair in love and war. these are stories of real women who have known great love. they are told with bawdy humour, unabashed vanity, heart-rending longing and carefree abandon.
