I have been translating plays since 2003, when I found Julio Escalda's Springtime on a shelf at the Instituto Cervantes, translated it, and then staged it at the Finborough Theatre in London. For two nights we filled the auditorium. Since that blisteringly hot London August, I have translated dozens of plays, many of them new works, for clients including the Royal Court Theatre, the BBC and the Gate, and for productions at the Old Vic and the Edinburgh International and Fringe Festivals. This site includes highlights from these projects, including Pedro Almodovar's All About my Mother, the New Plays from Chile, Arena Mexico and Cuba Real seasons at the Royal Court, and The Widow, a classic of Chilean theatre available in English translation for the first time. My translations have also been performed in the US and in Ireland, and several have been published. I have also lectured on theatre translation and have written articles on the subject for journals in the UK and France. I learned Spanish (and French and German) at school in my hometown of Grimsby, a fishing port in the northeast of England. I then read Spanish and French at Trinity Hall, Cambridge, and spent a year at the Escuela Navarra de Teatro in Pamplona, Spain. I then moved to London and trained as an actor at Drama Studio London. Some highlights from my time as an actor include The Borrowers at the West Yorkshire Playhouse, The Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui at theCitizens' Theatre in Glasgow, and Journey's End on tour and in the West End. I hold the Institute of Linguists Diploma in Translation and am a member of the Translators' Association. As well as translating, I am proud to work for PACE, London's leading charity promoting mental health and well-being in the LGBT community.

Society is fuelled by anger; dissatisfaction shapes Twitter feeds, online petitions and protest marches. But is that enough to bring about change? Alejandra and Marcela are planting bombs in the middle of the night. They dont want violence. They just want to be heard. Prisons not much of a threat when most of your friends are inside. Then they meet Jose Miguel. He is from a different generation, a time when revolution was ripe and activism alive. And he offers them a chance to start a war.

Spain
Synopsis:
International writers join up with their British counterparts to bring their experiences to the Royal Court. What is life really like for those living in todays austerity. Daily dispatches from Portugal, Ireland, Italy, Greece and Spain will invade the Jerwood theatre Upstairs. "With unemployment reaching almost 30% in Greece, soup kitchens springing up and immigrants being physically assaulted by Neo-Nazis on a regular basis it seems like the right time to put the lives of those affected by the eurozone crisis centre-stage at the Royal Court. Collaborating with writers from the countries on the frontline of austerity and using a variety of theatrical forms we will bring the PIIGS into the heart of London for a week of tragedy, comedy and rage" - Alexi Kaye Campbell, Playwright
