Anne Hamilton was born and raised in New Jersey. Her plays have been produced in New York City, London, and Arizona. She earned a bachelor of fine arts degree in English literature from Drew University in Madison, NJ, and a Master of Fine Arts degree in Theatre Criticism and Dramaturgy from Columbia University School of the Arts in New York City. She studied aesthetics as a Visiting Student at St. Catherine's College, Oxford University in England, and attended the American University Programme at St. Clare's Hall in Oxford, England. Romulus Linney was her primary mentor in playwriting, and she also studied with Elinor Fuchs, James Leverett, Evangeline Morphos and Arnold Aronson. Her plays include: WHO's ANDY WARHOL? (Produced by the Sky Blue Theatre Company at the Lost Theatre in London. Winner, 2014 British Theatre Challenge); AND THEN I WENT INSIDE (Starring Kathleen Chalfant, produced at the Cherry Lane Theatre in NYC in the LPTW's New Voices Festival); OFEM (Produced in Arizona in 2015. Winner, 3rd Annual Female Playwrights Onstage Project, PLantING THE SEED National Festival of New Plays). Anne directed a site-specific walking tour reading of her play THE STACY PLAY - A LOVE SONG - VOLUME I in Central Park (LPTW's 30 Plays Celebrate 30 Years event). This play also appeared in Pen and Brush's juried exhibit TRANSITIONS in NYC and placed #73/100 in Writer's Digest Magazine's 79th Annual Playwriting Competition. Other plays include I Want TO RUN AWAY WITH YOU, THE DELIVERY (Manhattan Shakespeare Project's 2010 Emerging Women's Voices Festival, NYC and NO PASSPORT Hibernating Rattlesnakes, Nuyorican Poets Cafe, NYC), ROYAL/EGG (Finalist, Red Bull Theatre's Short New Play Festival, 2010, NYC) THE RAINBOW CLOUD, RHODESIAN RIDGEBACK, and ISOTOPHOBE. She wrote and directed THE FARM SHOW at Blooming Glen Farm in PA in October 2014. Some other plays and monologues appear in two anthologies published by Hamilton Dramaturgy Press. Anne is a New York City-based freelance dramaturg and the Founder of Hamilton Dramaturgy, an international consultancy. She created Hamilton Dramaturgy's TheatreNow!, where she hosts and produces an oral history podcast series of important theatre women working in America. She has dramaturged for Andrei Serban, Michael Mayer, Lynn Nottage, NYMF, Niegel Smith, Classic Stage Company, The Harold Prince Musical Theatre Institute/The Directors Company, and the Great Plains Theatre Conference , among others. Her chapter, "Freelance Dramaturgs in the 21st Century: Journalists, Advocates and Collaborators" appears in THE ROUTLEDGE COMPANION TO DRAMATURGY, edited by Magda Romanska. She was a Bogliasco Foundation Fellow, won the Dean's Prize for Dramaturgy at Columbia University School of the Arts, and has taught scriptwriting at the Philadelphia Writers Conference. Anne is a dual citizen of the United States and Italy.
