In eva the Chaste, the titular character states: And what is a life in which we never crack it open - eternally cut off from ourselves -only dimly-aware of the power of Life Itself as the roar of the culture, the roar of society, the roar of the family, out-roars the voice of the individual heart. the roar enters in the form of eva's sister Teresa, her husband eamon, a hospice worker and a priest, as well as the wider net that has been cast by the media and political whirlpool spinning 'round them.
