In addition to being a playwright, Susan Hayden is a fiction writer and poet. Her short story, You Are What You Drive, was recently published in Storie: all Write, an Italian/American literary journal based in Rome. She has completed work on her first novel, a Young adult book, set in the San Fernando Valley in the 1970s. She is also the author of a gift book, The Enchanted Bath (Peter Pauper Press). Her poetry has appeared in numerous publications, including arete, Hollywood Review, Venice Magazine, Atlanta Journal, and can be heard on two spoken word c.d.'s, Innings and Quarters and DisClosures: Voices of Women. a screenplay version of her one-act play Tent Show, entitled Sweetheart of the Rodeo, was a Finalist in the Sundance Screenwriters Competition. She is a producer of literary events, including two tributes to the late writer Raymond Carver. She is also the co-founder of L.A.'s first performance fiction series, Gas/Food/Lodging, where writers, actors and directors would come together to dramatize short stories. She is the creator/producer of Library Girl, a mixed-genre, monthly literary series at the Ruskin Group Theatre. She lives in Santa Monica with her son, Mason.
