An active member of the Dramatists Guild, Susan Kathryn Hefti is an emerging American playwright. Named Finalist in the 2011-2012 Harold Clurman Playwright-in-Residence competition at the Stella Adler Studio's Playwrights Division, Hefti's newest full-length play American Dames or. . .Waiting For Dolley was also selected for the Studio's 2012 New Play Reading Festival where it was presented in a staged reading produced by the Stella Adler Studio and the Harold Clurman Laboratory Theater Company on April 11, 2012. Her earlier play KEEPIN' COOL - inspired by the tragic death of one of Susan's Yale students - was honored as a Semi-Finalist for the 2004 Princess Grace award. Her history play a DefIant Soul was presented at the St. Marks Church-in-the-Bowery Theatre in 2006 and was later adapted to be used as a Theater workshop for NYC students studying early American history and the events leading to the establishment of religious freedom in America. Susan's first play DEAR PRUDENCE made its world premiere at the Rattlestick Playwrights Theater in 2003 and has since been translated into French for an upcoming Paris production. Susan first became active in Theatre as a child actor immersing herself in one juicy character after another. While still in graduate school, Susan began her professional writing career as a reporter specializing in environmental news and later transitioned into writing for the stage. She has taught at several universities including Brown and Yale. Susan is currently working on her new play: the POWER PLAY, or. . .Smart Bombs and Other Sexy Toys. (https://tinyurl.com/o8tqxab) Susan's new full-length play ACTIAS LUNA: On the Origin of Madness has been selected for the 2017 New Play Lab at the 36th annual William Inge Theater Festival in Independence, Kansas. The New Play Lab provides the opportunity for Susan to work on the development of her new play in collaboration with the William Inge Theater Festival artistic team, culminating in a reading of a 30-minute extract from ACTIAS LUNA at the festival. Selected for The Hidden Theatre Company's New Writing event in the U.K., Susan's new short-play EXTINCTION, or the Swan Song received a staged reading in London in 2017. EXTINCTION has also been Shortlisted for the Fizzy Sherbet Play Festival in London and was named Finalist for the international literary magazine The Dionysian.
