Iain Heggie was born in Glasgow. After many jobs and training as an actor in London he started teaching acting and in his spare time he started writing. He returned to live and write in his home town in 1987. After several years of concentrating on his 'other job' as an improvisation specialist at the Royal Conservatoire Of Scotland he has now given up teaching altogether and is writing full time. His plays include Wholly Healthy Glasgow (Royal Exchange, Royal Court, Edinburgh International Festival, Mobil Award, television), American Bagpipes (Royal Exchange, Royal Court, Mayfest, John Whiting Award), Wiping My Mothers Arse (Traverse, Fringe First), An Experienced Woman Gives Advice (Royal Exchange, Royal Lyceum), Politics In The Park (Liverpool Playhouse, Tron, Traverse), Sex Comedies (Traverse, Tron, Old Red Lion), King Of Scotland (Assembly Rooms, Scottish tour, Fringe First), and The Tobacco Merchant's Lawyer (Oran Mor, Scottish tour, Assembly Rooms, Radio.).

Hanson
Synopsis:
Hanson charts the public and private disintegration of a chat show host, Ross Hanson. It is an audacious re-imagining of Coriolanus, Shakespeare's tragedy of a proud man's downfall. It promises, like The Don, his disturbing adaptation of Moliere's Don Juan, to eviscerate contemporary popular culture as well as detail the self-induced destruction of an individual.

Tobacco Merchant's Lawyer, The
Merchant City 1780. Glasgow is booming but the American war is looming and the city's wealth is dependent on the import and export of American tobacco. Will the great port survive? This pressing question is NOT addressed by enoch Dalmellington, resident of Virginia Street. He is more concerned about marrying off his dreich pious humourless daughter euphemia, being able to afford his pew at the Tron Kirk, and what to do about Mistress Zapata's scurrilous predictions about Glasgow in 2008. apparently "women will be attending university, the poor will all have water closets and his beloved Virginia Street will become a hotbed of sodomy!".
