Great American Success, The
Synopsis:
a Queens, New York, rock n roll quartet is hired by their former violinist, Richard Henrickson, to be a "bad rock group" in his Broadway production of the Great American Success, a musical play. the quartet are comedians in their own right and steal the show, which bombs on opening night. Never aware that they were hired by their "buddy" Richard because they were supposed to be terrible musicians, they return to their anonymous existence, rehearsing in a telephone-less abandoned bowling alley in Queens, never to learn that record companies want to offer them contracts. the play is a play within a play, a mirror image of itself, and, except for background music, employs music and lyrics in only real-life situations.
