Edward H. Hernandez, Ph.D is a professor and playwright. He has authored multiple plays including arroz con Pollo, the elevator Principle, Quid Pro Quo, Knowledge Transfer, appalachian Redneck, How to Win Friends and Influence People and SOX. His plays tend to focus on workplace or labor issues. His plays have been performed in Los Angeles, Seattle, San Francisco and New York. He is also a professor of Human Resource Management at California State University Stanislaus. Appalachian Redneck

Synopsis:
the stakes are high as Peter and Willy, fearing another deadly coalmine disaster, fight to organize workers. Powerful forces, fueled by corporate greed and indifference, face off against two insignificant and unknown coal miners in a battle that may save the lives of hundreds of workers, and protect what little they have left in their lives. This play takes place in the appalachian coalmine region in the 1930's, a time labor woke up, and the final lines were drawn, in a battle to change the face of organized labor forever. the first 'rednecks' were the coalmine organizers wearing red scarves around their neck during this period of time.

Arroz Con Pollo

Synopsis:
Nathan, a corporate climbing junior executive is working late night in his office in Manhattan. He befriends Victor, a security guard, who visits his office. Later that same night he meets angela, Victor's daughter, who regularly delivers a home-cooked meal for her father. angela suspects Nathan is there to manage mass layoffs, and challenges Nathan. angela brings Nathan him meals when she hears he likes a sample of the food given to him. angela becomes even more interested in Nathan. However, Nathan's attention is on emily, the daughter of his boss. Nathan hears that emily's Father likes people who make tough decisions, so he figures a tough layoff recommendation would impress him, and increase his chances with emily. He ultimately befriends emily, who wants to escape from her father's control. Victor advises Nathan against the layoffs. the layoff becomes reality. a drunk and depressed laid off worker drives his car through the city, accidentally killing angela on the street outside of the workplace as she is delivering another meal for her father. an anguished Victor is holding angela in his arms on the street as Nathan learns about his role in her death.

Elevator Principle, The

Synopsis:
according to the elevator Principle: "Returning service members must be re-employed in the job that they would have attained had they not been absent for military service, with the elevated seniority status and pay." This long-standing principle of the U.S. military is one of the core safeguards provided returning service members. This play, performed as a one-act, is a Dramatic portrayal of a U.S. soldier, returning from the war in Afghanistan, finding that his company outsourced his job. they refuse to give it back. Tired from fighting, and simply hoping to get back to living his own life with his wife, the soldier accepts his situation. His wife doesn't, and uses her wit, and a creative appeal, to try to set things straight. In the clash between capitalism vs. patriotism, the winner is often in doubt.

Quid Pro Quo

Synopsis:
We know what he did. . .we know what he said. . .but was it sexual harassment? Tensions are high in this courtroom Drama where CaRRIe accuses ROGeR of sexual harassment. In this high-stakes battle of legal maneuvering, the fate of the defendant is up to you, the jury. PeTeR, the plaintiff attorney, provides a focused attack, but theReSe, the defense attorney, provides an solid defense in this battle of words, disagreement over actions, and debate over the fate of workplace freedom-of-speech. Quid Pro Quo sexual harassment occurs if a job benefit is directly connected to an employee submitting to unwelcome sexual advances or demands. For example, a supervisor promises an employee a raise if she will go out on a date with him, or tells an employee she will be fired if she doesn't sleep with him.
