Anja Hilling studied Dramatic Writing at the University of Arts, Berlin. With her first play "Stars", she got invited to the talent platform "Stuckemarkt" at the Theatertreffen Berlin in 2003 and was awarded the first price in the competition. The same year, she was part of the "International Residency" at the Royal Court Theatre in London. For her second play, "Mein junges idiotisches Herz" ("My Young And Foolish Heart"), she got the "Best Up-And-Coming Young Playwright Award" of the year 2005 by German theatre magazine "theater heute". With her plays "Monsun", "Bulbus", "Engel" and "Protection" being produced at theatres like Burgtheater Vienna, Thalia Theatre Hamburg, Munchner Kammerspiele and Maxim Gorki Theatre, Berlin, she established herself as one of the best young playwrights in recent years.
