Douglas Hodge is a five times Olivier-nominated actor/director, who has worked at the National Theatre, the RSC, Shakespeare's Globe and the Royal Court Theatre. He has recently starred as Willy Wonka in CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane directed by Sam Mendes. Awards include 2012 Best Actor for INADMISSABLE EVIDENCE (nomination), 2009 Best Actor in a Musical for LA CAGE AUX FOLLES (winner) and 2006 Best Actor in a Musical for GUYS AND DOLLS (nomination). He was also nominated for Best Actor in the 2005 Evening Standard Awards for his role in DUMBSHOW at The Royal Court. Douglas starred as Albin in the Broadway transfer of La Cage Aux Folles for which his performance won him a Tony Award (Best Actor), a Drama Desk Award (Best Actor) and an Outer Critics Award (Best Actor). He originally played the role in London in 2008 at The Menier Chocolate Factory and then at The Playhouse Theatre in the West End. He has a parallel career as a director, most recently directing TORCH SONG TRILOGY at the Menier Chocolate Factory. He was Associate Director at the Donmar theatre and his directing work includes DIMETOS, ABSURDIA, LAST EASTER at Birmingham Rep and SEE HOW THEY RUN which went straight to the West End after a sell-out tour. Douglas has also directed two short films and a multi camera piece for BBC2. He also co-write FOREST PEOPLE, a half hour screenplay for BBC2. For ten years he worked almost exclusively with Harold Pinter as both actor and director, and will direct a version of Pinter's OLD TIMES starring Clive Owen for a Roundabout Theatre production on Broadway in Autumn 2015. TV work includes ONE NIGHT, THE TOWN, THE SECRET STATE, BERT AND DICKIE, OUTNUMBERED, SKINS, SPOOKS, UNFORGIVEN, ONLY FOOLS AND HORSES, MIDDLEMARCH, THE WAY WE LIVE NOW and CAPITAL CITY. As a composer, Douglas won the Stiles and Drew award in 2012 for Best New Song for POWERCUT. Douglas is writing material for a new musical with The Stable which is currently being workshopped at The Menier Chocolate Factory. He also has a horror film in development.
