Adrian Howells, theatrical performer, born 9 April 1962; died 16 March 2014. A performance artist for the past 20 years, Adrian Howell's unique style and abilities have consistently borne fruit through his collaborations with an eclectic mix of venues and practitioners from the Citizens Theatre, Glasgow to Nigel Charnock and the late Leigh Bowery. Capitalising on an ever-growing reputation as a solo artist -primarily in the guise of his transvestite alter ego Adrienne - Howells is now breaking new boundaries in academic circles and has recently been awarded a prestigious Creative and Performing Arts Fellowship at Glasgow University. - Guardian Obituary

14 Stations Of the Life And History Of Adrian Howells, The

Synopsis:
I doubt if anyone who entered into the 14 Stations of the Life and History of adrian Howells will ever forget the intensity, the potentially unnerving honesty and intimacy, of this close encounter with Howells's personal litany of pain and suffering. His use of the devotional meditation, Christ's 14 Stations of the Cross, as a template for this one-to-one promenade through the lower reaches of the arches might offend some people - but, in truth, the core strand of this journey is offence, given and taken. as a gay man with transvestite inclinations Howells has, from boyhood, been on the receiving end of bullying, abuse and humiliation. Now, in his forties -and in this series of installations and interactions - Howells has a second "coming out". He frankly acknowledges the pain, embarrassment and emotional cruelty he has also inflicted on others. each ticket holder becomes a witness or indeed a partner in the admission of guilty secrets, the ritual of confession. What keeps this from being self-indulgent, however, is Howells's ability to make this two-way sharing open-ended - to use his past behaviour, his memories and anecdotes, his current facing up to things he now regrets, as an invitation for us to examine our own conscience.

Audience With Adrienne, An

Synopsis:
Having previously charmed her clientele with a series of intimate, one-to-one performances set in launderettes, hotel rooms and hairdressing salons around the UK, our hostess, adrienne, now offers a select group of patrons an up-close-and-personal invitation to an audience with adrienne in the upholstered surrounds of her kitsch and cosy living room. Whilst sharing her life-story, watching video interviews with family members, engaging in saucy conversational confession, and playing games over tea and cake, adrienne lays bare some of her own personal fears and taboos.

Foot Washing For the Sole

Gay In A Manger

Synopsis:
Everyone's favourite gender-bending duo Tranny and Roseannah present an alternative festive experience. Come on in, make yourselves comfortable, and enjoy the story of Christmas as you've never seen it before. . . It's CHRIIIIIST-MASSSS! That most special time of year, when the decorations go up, the foul-mouthed family comes over, and the booze goes down. Well this time, Tranny and Roseannah have invited you round to theirs for a cosy Christmas night in - only, it might not be quite what you expect. Think John Waters hosting Noel's House Party and you're getting close. Think a camp cabaret atmosphere where anything goes and Christmas values get twisted and shaken and you're even closer. Featuring Eilidh MacAskill as Grandpa, Laurie Brown as Roseannah and Rosana Cade as Tranny, join us for an evening of special guests, an alternative take on the Christmas nativity, and some good old-fashioned yuletide singalongs. With tits, tinsel, and turkey, baubles, balls, and blood, this is an X-rated Xmas show you won't soon forget.

Gorgeous

Synopsis:
Gorgeous is the first intimate collaboration between Nigel and Adrian and combines their wit, energy and unpretentious avant-garde joy. Falling firmly between two stools and a rock and a hard place, Gorgeous is a part-written, part-improvised collection of scenes forged from the depths of depression and the giddy heights of love. In this two-hander Howells and Charnock bicker and snap their way through ugly scenes of gentle obscenity and playful horror.
