David Hoyle is a renowned performance artist, avant-garde cabaret artist, singer, actor, comedian, film director, and creator of the Divine David, an anti- drag queen character who fronted several series on Channel 4. Hoyle has also appeared in Chris Morris and Charlie Brookers Nathan Barley and in recent years, he has returned to the stage with a string of live shows; Magazine (2007), Daves Drop-In (2009), Licking Wounds (2010) and Lives (2011). In 2010 he released his own feature film Uncle David, which he both directed and starred in.

If you are not careful you will become animals covered in sand. You are our descendants. You are very special. Some of you are to be precisely registered and preserved. You will become our most important historical monument. Bessie and Jessie have been stuck in a bombed ballroom. theyare also stuck together. there appears to be no escape. Bessieis happy to be stuck. Surely it is better than being alone? Jessie often went blue as a child. Jessie clutches the last unopened Christmas present. they are instructed by a voice, the Special Detachment, who only eats strawberries, and keeps the world in order. Bessie and Jessie have a model trainset. the train is driven bya live rodent. the train has been moving for too many years. the train is about to fall off its tracks.

Uncle David

Synopsis:
This low budget, black comedy is David Hoyle's feature debut and he is joined by pornstar Ashley Ryder as his nephew. Both actors are improvising their lines, which gives the whole work an edginess, heightened by the atmosphere of an out-of-season caravan-park on the Isle of Sheppey. the banalities of conversation between uncle and nephew are thrown into the realms of the utterly unconventional when we realise that not only are they involved in a sexual relationship but there is a sinister reason for their holiday. We are drawn into a world of disturbing madness, whose cracked logic is delivered with an unnerving avuncular charm.
