David Malcolm Hutchinson was born and raised in Stirling, Scotland. From a young age it became apparent that he was interested in the performing arts, and wanted to pursue a career related to his love in film and stage. In 2006 he began training at the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts on the Ba (Hons) acting degree. In his time at LIPa he would train in acting and musical theatre as well as developing his skills in directing and writing. His first writing success came in 2008 when Sell a Door Theatre Company produced his debut play "The Secrets Inside" at the Stirling Tollbooth Theatre and The edinburgh Fringe Festival. Following this, David penned a musical adaptation of a number of William Finn's musical numbers from "Falsettos", "a New Brain" and "Spelling Bee" which was work-shopped and performed, in house, at LIPA. In September 2008 David was accepted onto the Liverpool everyman Young Writers Course where he would hone his writing skills under Literary Director Susanna Bell. David's next play, titled "Planning Permission" goes up at the Unity Theatre, Liverpool in May 2009.

Blood Is Strong, The
Synopsis:
Scotland, today. Alec Baillie used to be a famous singer of Scottish popular music. No Hogmanay was complete without him, but now he finds himself out of date and forgotten as tastes have moved on, and the country itself is changing around him. His daughter is an aspiring Scottish National Party MSP anxious to be part of an independent Scotland in which she sees no place for the traditional cosy view of the nation that her father represents. . .This timely play is both a compelling human story and an exploration of what has been happening politically and culturally north of the border. And what that might mean for england and the english.
Notes:
An earlier version of The Blood is Strong entitled The Voice of Scotland was presented as part of Vibrant 2010 A Festival of Finborough Playwrights, directed by Blanche McIntyre
