Farewell to Arms, A
Synopsis:
Based on the author's real-life experience of war torn Italy in 1918, A Farewell to Arms follows the story of Frederic Henry, an American ambulance driver in the Italian army and his relationship with British nurse Catherine Barkley. In the turmoil of the closing months of The Great War Frederic and Catherine discover the redemptive power of love and experience the loss of innocence as they cement their relationship in a time of devastating conflict. Acclaimed theatre makers imitating the dog bring their unique theatrical vision to Ernest Hemingway's seminal First World War novel A Farewell to Arms. In a year that marks the 100-year anniversary of the start of World War One, this production seizes the opportunity to tell one of the great love stories of the twentieth century. A premiere of the first UK adaptation, the production fuses video projection, beautiful stage design and original music to create an extraordinary version of Hemingway's powerful meditation on love and the brutality of modern warfare.
