70 Hill Street
Synopsis:
When the lights come up, the stage is empty except for a table with two sheets of newspaper laid out on it. then Phelim McDermott, Steve Tiplady, and Guy Dartnell appear, and with a few quick, deft motions the sheets are transformed into two animated creatures and then into a single one. It's a puppet, but not like one you've seen before, and even though we see its three handlers behind it, it moves with a logic and locomotion of its own; it even has a personality (and a sweet one at that). Later the Improbable threesome will create windows, door, doorknobs, gardens, staircases, hallways, rooms, and even an entire house out of sealing tape, and each new creation brings a childlike sense of wonder and delight at the sheer inventiveness of it all. It's all the more joyous because this is not ed Sullivan Show gimmickry. It's real theatre: a new way to tell a story.

Box
Synopsis:
every BOX has six sides, twelve edges, and eight corners. It is consistent. It is what's expected. It does not change. We often make ourselves slaves to finite expectations. When does our BOX become a prison? Told predominantly through movement, this theater piece contemplates the safety, the comfort, and the joy of the BOX we know, all the while asking us to consider the possibilities that can arise when one is willing to step outside of that with which we are familiar and perhaps love more than anything else, in order to experience or perchance even to create something new. are you intrepid, or are you content with the finite definition of happiness and success that our social order dictates? Find out as you take this theatrical journey exploring a life lived inside and outside the BOX.

Opening Skinner's Box
Synopsis:
Opening Skinner's Box is a whistle stop tour of the scientific quest to make sense of what we are and who we are. Us humans. You and me. Why do we love and when would we kill? How do we learn and why do we believe in the unbelievable? How accurate is our memory? (clue: not very) and why do we keep doing things that hurt us? Up until a hundred years ago these were questions for philosophy and religion but then science wanted to join the conversation and according to science, pretty much everything we think about ourselves is wrong. Based on the fascinating and controversial book by Lauren Slater, Opening Skinner's Box features ten great psychological experiments and the ways in which they turned our ideas about ourselves upside down. Alongside these experiments are the lives of the people who created them. They may be experimenting on us, but they are us, and Opening Skinner's Box makes them part of the story. Fascinating, astonishing and sometimes shocking, join Improbable for a rollercoaster ride through the human mind.

Panic
Synopsis:
Improbable has grown out of a way of working that means being prepared to create work by the seat of your pants and the skin of your teeth, stepping onstage before you are ready and allowing the audience to have an integral part in the creation of a show. . . So at the time of writing it is hard to say what it is you will see tonight, but somehow, some way, it will feature the Great God Pan. . .' Quote taken from the programme

Spirit
Synopsis:
Three performers play three brothers who break bread together and wait for their story to begin. The performers wait too. And when did a story not happen to three brothers? Spirit takes you to a Improbable world of ugly improvisation, headless puppets, fractured storytelling and visual imagery to find out what happens to three brothers, who are in a simple story that gets complicated when things don't turn out the way they should. If drama is conflict, is conflict still drama when the performers don't agree? That is really don't agree.

Still, The
Synopsis:
What happens when exciting practitioners from outside theatre meet Improbable onstage? Over the upcoming years, Improbable will be collaborating with a series of unique and diverse practitioners. each will be an expert in their chosen field, often from outside of theatre. they will range from scientists to therapists, from astrologers to economists. the Improbable performers will spend one week with the practitioner inside their theatrical still. At the end of the week, the fermented brew will be offered up in the form of a couple of improvised performances. We have no idea in what ways the work will influence the improvisations, but we have no doubt that it will. these challenging collaborations will be an exciting provocation for both the company, our chosen practitioners and the audience! Come and be part of the experiment. Our third guest to step up into the still is astrologer Darby Costello. Darby Costello was born in America and studied astrology in Boston in the 1960s. From there she went to Africa, where she worked with tribal healers and diviners. Now she lives in London where she teaches and writes books for the Centre for Psychological Astrology, founded by Liz Greene and Howard Sasportas in 1984. Her first book was the Astrological Moon
