Tsai Yong a student leaves his wife and parents and goes to the City to make his fortune. He becomes a renowned magistrate and marries the Princess. Meanwhile back home famine has killed his parents and his first wife has had to sell her hair to pay for their funeral. the Princess finds out about the first wife and has her brought to the palace and installed as Tsai Yong's number one wife
