Christopher and His Kind
Synopsis:
In 1929 the novelist Christopher Isherwood left England on a one-way ticket to Berlin in search of intellectual freedom and sexual liberation. Ignoring the disapproval of his overbearing mother Kathleen, Isherwood launched himself into Berlin's underground gay scene and wrote a series of successful novels reflecting Germany's fall into the grip of the Nazi Party. Spanning ten years of Christopher's life this exciting new script tells one man's story of sex, love and belonging, set against the backdrop of a nation torn apart by poverty, prejudice and fascism. An ensemble cast bring to life the people who shaped Christopher during these formative years, including Wysten Auden, Jean Ross and the infamous Gerald Hamilton, and take the audience on a journey into the crumbling decadence of Weimar Berlin.

Don Juan
Synopsis:
Taking elements of the traditional voyeuristic story, Jackinabox Productions presents a modern retelling of the original legend. The production has been inspired and informed by the daring writers who have tackled this scandalous story before; Moliere, Byron, Mozart, Torso de Molina and Zorrilla. Cast as the Fool in Hell's masquerade, Don Juan is forced to recount his sordid seductions, his memories of temptation, his deceit and his damnation for the amusement of the devil. This retelling isn't based entirely around innuendo and sensuality, instead is focusing on a life given over entirely to seduction and lust. The tale is laced with irreverent humor. Dynamic choreography and innovative physical theatre compliment the sharp and witty script, to convey the surreal madness that thrives in the depths of the hell. The piece blurs the boundaries between the theatrical disciplines to create an exciting show that brings to life this timeless tale. With Don Juan we defy the expectations that normally accompany a piece about the life and lies of a seducer. Strong female characters challenge and change our protagonist, and the tragic themes are balanced with comedy and titillating fun. This is much more than a classic retelling of an old legend
