Jason Jacobs was raised in Culver City, California and now lives in New York City. He is a director, playwright, dramaturg, and teaching artist who was identified as a Person of the Year by NYTheatre.com in 2007. Jason went to Yale College, where he majored in English (with a specialty on Victorian novels). He received an MFA in Theatre Directing from Columbia, where he studied with Anne Bogart. As the co-founder and former co-Artistic Director of Theatre Askew, he conceived and directed Bald Diva! (GLAAD Media Nomination and published by New York Theatre Experience in Playing With Cannons), and directed The Tempest, i google myself, and co-directed I Claudius, Live. He also co-founded and directed projects for the LGBTQ youth theatre program, TAYPE. Jason wrote and performed the solo play, Poor Sport. In addition to presenting the show at New York's Miranda Theatre and Highways Performance Space in L.A., he performed in schools and youth organizations in New York and a juvenile detention center in Florida. As a director, he has collaborated with playwrights Richard Sheinmel, David Koteles, Jason Schafer, Kathryn Blume, and Jeremy Lawrence. He also loves directing classic plays - some favorites include Oliver Twist, As You Like It, and Mario and the Magician. He currently balances his theatrical projects while working as teaching artist and project coordinator for Education at Roundabout Theatre Company. He has taught at Williamstown Theatre Festival, Columbia's High School Summer Institute and worked as a guest artist at Long Island University/CW Post Campus, NYU Department of Dramatic Writing, Bay Shore High School, and Beacon High School.

Synopsis:
An inner city high school teacher tries to save an at-risk student by exposing him to the work of 19th century rags-to-riches author Horatio Alger; but as he moves through Algers Ragged Dick, he must confront the authors complicated relationship with boys  and ultimately, his own.
