And We Shall Never Be Parted (Og Aldri Ska vi Skiljas)

And We Shall Never Be Parted (Og Aldri Ska vi Skiljas)
In And We'll Never be Parted, Jon Fosse exploits theatre's unique potential for ambiguity: as a woman anxiously waits for her husband, are we watching reality, fantasy, memory, or even a ghost story?

Doonreagan - a private domain of Ted Hughes

Doonreagan - a private domain of Ted Hughes
Doonreagan House in Cashel, Connemara, for many years home to the author of this play, was where future Poet Laureate Ted Hughes took refuge in the late 1960s, after the death of his wife Sylvia Plath. With him were his two young children by Sylvia, as well as his lover Assia Wevill and baby daughter Schura. Doonreagan explores the doomed relationship between Ted and Assia during their brief but intense spell in Connemara: an ultimate test of conjugality and family life, at which neither of them had excelled so far. Based on years of personal research and experience, Doonreagan opens up new angles on this tragic triangle drama and the mystery of Sylvia Plath's death.

Night On the Run

Synopsis:
Karin Helander writes: "Night on the Run has the feeling of the wild stories children love to invent. Maria Montelius' expressive text is a wonderful mix of bizarre word combinations, linguistic whims, razor sharp imprints of feelings and breakneck absurdities. It is crazy and poetic, wise and freaky, hurtful and longing, consoling and sympathetic. It is a runaway play about a charging night in an abandoned girl's life. In a department store closed for the night she searches for her omniscient storyteller."

Only Our Own

Synopsis:
In the Irish war of independence in the 1920s, hundreds of stately homes were burnt to the ground and the owners' ancestral lands seized. So what became of the dispossessed Anglo-Irish families? Where did they go? Did they come to England, to live here amongst us, drawing a veil over their traumatic past? Or did they stay in Ireland, doing their best to assimilate into a society that had no place for them? How has the present generation adapted to the modern world? Has the Anglo-Irish culture been eradicated, or does it still persist? Only Our Own follows three generations of one such family, their struggle to survive - socially, culturally and psychologically - into our days, while an emerging new class takes over as custodians of their heritage. Reflecting an imposed social system that turned everyone into a victim, it follows Ireland's journey from a highly polarized society to a modern integrated one, overcoming age-old bitterness and hatred. the play also explores the dilEmma of living with or without a traumatic past; the intergenerational gap between people emotionally linked but faced with different options; and, ultimately, the need to develop and adjust to a world changing around you.

Smile

Synopsis:
about a dying rock star

Notes:
It was premiered in her home town of Gothenburg in 1972, but rejected as politically incorrect. In the Swedish theatre climate prevalent at this time, plays had to deal with the underprivileged, not the wealthy and successful. Disillusioned, she returned to London.
