Better Than Death
Synopsis:
Better Than Death is a two-act play about the role of men in contemporary society. Above all, though, it is about justice. The play opens with the imminent death of Victor's mother, and in a series of flashback scenes, as well as scenes with the family at the nursing home, explores Victor's world and the relationship with his two younger sisters, Lena, and Roxie. At 43 Roxie undergoes IVF treatment to have a child, George, who she raises alone. Lena has borrowed money from their mother to buy a property in the Byron hinterland where she works as a new age therapist/energy/light worker. Finally there is Victor's wife, Caroline, an aristocratic English heiress whom Victor first met as a student in Cambridge during the 1980s. Victor is taught a lesson in real justice and sacrifice by his mother's palliative nurse, Joan. This opens him to a new level of compassion and understanding that, until the demise of his mother, had remained dormant.

Blotto

He and his manager/wife Sonia are offered sanctuary in a boarding house run by Townsville local Joycie Pound and her Aboriginal family. Harry is transformed by the experience of the indigenous Australian cultural divide. He learns that happiness and wisdom are possible outside material and professional attainment, yet cannot help returning to America to capitalise on his new-found status as a channeler of a 40,000-year-old spirit from the Australian Dreamtime.
