Gareth Jones, who was born in 1952, was educated at a state co-ed school and Victoria University, where he took his first step in writing; directing and writing, although at the age of seven he had had a comic published. He directed plays in Wellington before becoming a drama producer for Radio New Zealand, where he stayed for the best part of four years, first in Wellington and later in Auckland. There he directed enormous numbers of, oftei horrendous, New Zealand works, including his own play LEFTOVERS, which was originally designed as the scenario for a comic strip. In 1978 he spent a stormy six months as artistic director of Four Seasons Theatre. He is currently unemployed and is writing an epic stage play (for seven people) with the working title of NEW DREAMS and a novel DELICATE AGENCY. (1979)
