Nikos was born on February 18th 1883 in Crete. He attended the Franciscan School of the Holy Cross in Naxos and the High School, Herakleion and later the University of athens.He travelled widely during the period 1910 - 1930 visiting amoungst other places China, Japan and Spain. Though not a member of the Communist Party he was awarded the Lenin Peace Prize. He reported on the Spanish Civil War. From 1947-48 he worked for UNESCO. He died on October 26th 1957 in Germany.
