Big Hand, Little Hand

Synopsis:
The play deals with themes of time, the seasons and the cycles of life and ageing. A 'boy' prepares the audience for the arrival of the 'daughter of the moon', who is very old, only comes to earth 'once in a blue moon', and can only stay for one night. When she arrives, poetic images of the moon, childhood and the cycle of life are evoked as she and the boy play together. Finally, after dwelling on the nature of dreams, memories and the loss of loved relatives, it is time for her to return to the sky. To soften the boy's sadness, she explains the inevitability of ageing by paralleling it with the water cycle, demonstrating with a blue cloth that emerges, shimmers over the audience and then retreats.

Monkey Business

Synopsis:
Monkey Business was written in Singapore where imaginative play is undervalued. The play is therefore an entertainment on the importance of play and the imagination to balance and refresh after work and study. Using humour, childhood games and references to popular culture, four friends - two sisters and a sister and a brother - launch into sections of extended play: first with just themselves and their imagination, and then through the transformation of everyday objects - shoes, plastic bags and a rubber band string. In between, they address the audience in rhythmic verse. The play concludes with shared verse on the importance of dreams, using a large black cloth to create beautiful images.
