Music Teacher Dr Walther Lessing and schoolmaster Karl Reder have written a song. Karl is seeing the Doctor's daughter Sieglinde. They both take the song to Munich to get it published. Karl meets operetta star Frieda and is immediately enamoured. Frieda lives with Bruno Mahler an operetta librettist. When Sieglinde meets him she too is smitten. Frieda moves out of Bruno's apartment so she can spend time with Karl. Bruno takes Sieglinde to the zoo. A bird seller tells her to go home. Bruno makes a pass but Sieglinde repulses him. Frieda finds Karl a disappointment and leaves for Berlin to appear in a movie. Sieglinde is given her part in the operetta "Tingle Tangle" by Bruno. The dress rehearsal is a disaster - Sieglinde is only an amateur. Bruno falls instantly out of love with her. Karl and Sieglinde go back to their village.
