Journalist and author, Ian Kilroy was born in 1969 and grew up in Galway where he graduated from University College, Galway with a Masters degree in English. He subsequently received a first class Masters degree in Journalism from Dublin City University, where he was also awarded the first Veronica Guerin Scholarship for Journalism. As a freelance journalist, he has worked for The Sunday Tribune, Magill Magazine and The Irish Times. In 1996 an adaptation of his long poem, 'Brood', was filmed with the assistance of the Arts Council of Ireland, RTÉ and the Irish Film Board. The film was broadcast on RTÉ television in 1997 and won an award at the Galway Film Fleadh.

Synopsis:
The Carnival King is set in contemporary rural Ireland where a bitter family plot a twisted revenge on a man they know, but cannot prove, committed a murder. This is a dark morality fable of blood and justice, set against the backdrop of carnival excess.
