When the chief censor in South Africa's apartheid era sent a notice to the satirist Robert Kirby, demanding that specifled four-letter words be cut from a play he had written, Kirby did what any law-abiding citizen would do: he laid a criminal charge against the chief censor for sending obscene material through the mail.
