Scott Klavan wrote and appeared in The Double Murder Plays, a group of one-acts, for the 2007 NY International Fringe Festival. One of the pieces, Double Murder, was published in Best American Short Plays of 2006-7, by Applause Books. Scott wrote and appeared in P.O., a two-man piece about workers losing their jobs at a contemporary post office, for the 2010 Fringe Festival.P.O. was just chosen by Florida State University to be used as a text for its nationwide Speech & Debate competition. Scott performed his original monologue, Wolf Messing and the KGB, for the 2011 Emerging Artists Theatre's One Man Talking festival. A short film he wrote and appears in, Bad Luck, was an Official Selection of the LA Shorts Fest and is currently available on YouTube. Three of his plays have been finalists at the O'Neill Playwriting Conference. He was chosen as a Playwright in Lincoln Center Theater Directors' Lab, 2007. Scott wrote the theatrical adaptation of Raymond Carver's classic short story, Cathedral, for Theater by the Blind. For many years, Scott was a Dramaturge and Script Analyst for theater and film companies including Paul Newman-Joanne Woodward; HBO; CAA; Viacom; Scott Rudin Prods. For eight years, he was a Group Leader with Creative Alternatives of New York, (CANY) leading therapeutic drama groups for emotionally disabled youth, at alternative and charter schools, group homes, hospitals and shelters. He worked in a similar capacity for companies including Counseling in Schools (CIS), Harlem Educational Fund (HEAF), and ART IS. In these positions, he wrote and directed dozens of original theater pieces for youth. Scott taught Creative Writing for Johns Hopkins Young Scholars, a nationwide program for gifted teens. Currently, Scott is the Drama Teacher for Seniors at the 92nd St. Y, JCC, and JASA, and for gifted teens at The Teak Fellowship. As an actor, Scott appeared on Broadway in Irena's Vow, with Tovah Feldshuh, reprising his role as Roman from the Off-Broadway run. He also shot the title role and did narration for Mechanic to Millionaire: The Peter Cooper Story, for PBS. Previously, Scott played five roles in the stage version of the film hit The Joy Luck Club, for Pan Asian Rep. Other Off-Broadway: Endpapers, directed by Pamela Berlin, produced by Benjamin Mordecai; Double Sophia, The Cherry Lane Theatre; the leading role of Fisby in the classic comedy The Teahouse of the August Moon, as well as the NY premiere of The Legacy Codes, also at Pan Asian Rep; Combustion at BAM; Treplev in The Seagull, directed by Kjetl Bang-Hansen, head of the National Theatre of Norway. Regionally, Scott has performed in A Shayna Maidel, Studio Arena Theatre, Buffalo, NY; The Common Pursuit, Studio Theatre, Washington, D.C; the title role in The Puppetmaster of Lodz, Stageworks at The Egg, Albany, NY; others. On television he has been seen in Picket Fences, and As the World Turns, CBS; films on A & E, NBC, the Sci-Fi Channel, and Onion News Network. He has done Voice-Overs for programs including PBS' The American Experience and Wide Angle. Scott is a Lifetime Member of The Actors Studio. He is a graduate of Kenyon College, where he performed in the world premiere of C.C. Pyle and the Bunion Derby, by Michael Cristofer, directed by Paul Newman. Scott is a two-time winner of Kenyon's Paul Newman Acting Award.
