Cherry Orchard, The - A Game In Four Acts
Synopsis:
Miscreant theatre is presenting this play by Chekhov in a style they call "Smash and Grab." Here's what they say that means: What is a Smash and Grab? 1. Players may not deliver their lines until opening night. 2. Players will have no rehearsed blocking. 3. as a texted improvisation, each player must memorize their text, their entrances/exits and play them as set down. How players enter/speak/move is left to the instinct of the player and the intuition of the group. On Tuesday May 25th, after four weeks of intensive character investigation and game development, the players will share their lines of this adaptation with each other and an audience for the first time. Jacob Knoll, one of the artistic directors of the Miscreant theatre and a past UCB player calls the project:the Cherry Orchard - a Game in Four acts. the Smash and Grab demands a new level of courage, spontaneity, and creativity. It demands each artist listen anew and play with intensity not often called on in today's theatre, beckoning bold new choices every run of the show. Conceived by Knoll and developed with co-artistic director Jeff Barry the Smash and Grab fuses long form improvisation and traditional acting techniques together and stretches the boundaries of putting on a play. Sound crazy? Try being in it.
