Dorothy's Road Trip
Synopsis:
Dorothy's Road Trip is a modern adaptation of the beloved Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum, with several comical twists. Dorothy still gets transported to Oz, but she is anything but the typical naive girl. She's a modern, assertive teenager who is used to getting her own way. (auntie Em might even say she's spoiled!) Her first encounter is with the Munchkinville Police Chief who is ready to arrest Dorothy for 'flying' without a license. Heralded as a hero by the Mayor and townspeople, she sets out on her quest to find the Wizard so that she can find her way home. Despite the protection of Good Witch Glinda, she is stalked by Glinda's evil cousin, the Wicked Witch of the West and her personal henchman, Watson - a bumbling but well meaning minion. along the way, she meets a thoughtfully brainless Scarecrow, a soft-hearted though heartless Tinman, and a cowardly lion. after an arduous journey to the Wizard's palace, they must then get past his personal assistant - a 'French Maid' style character who is more concerned with doing her nails than anything else. Through mishaps and mayhem, Dorothy and her friends accomplish the impossible and all ends well.

Western Tale, The
The Bard goes cowboy in "The Western Tale" - a two act play that is anything but the typical western. This loose adaptation of Shakespeare's "The Winter's Tale" has a western setting, characters and theme. In the play, Big Leo and Doc Xavier have been friends since boyhood, until Big Leo's suspicious nature convinces him his wife, Ramona, and the Doc are having an affair. Following the original story line, he takes her to court where she collapses - apparently dead. He banishes her newly born baby in the wilderness to die, but his loyal ranch hand, Gus, secretly saves the child who is raised by some local squatters. Fast forward sixteen years, and 'Pearl' (Leo's daughter) falls in love with Doc Xavier's son. You can guess the rest& In the end, Leo repents, Ramona reappears, everyone is reunited and they all live happily ever after. True to the original Shakespearean version, the play is a comedy but there are also some dark dramatic moments. The famous 'bear scene' remains, and Father Time has been transformed into a traveling 'snake oil salesman' named Otto, who also functions as the narrator.
Notes:
Set and staging are flexible. There are many opportunities for doubling. The subject matter lends itself well to adult theatre, as the theme, although comedic, is also rather dark in keeping with Shakespeare's original play.
