A Ballad Hunter arrives in the Appellations looking for songs and ballads that have been passed down through the years. He hears Gussie singing - they instantly fall in love and the love is consummated. The Ballad Hunter goes off to the mine to collect miners' songs. There is an explosion and many men are killed. The Ballad Hunter disappears and everyone thinks he had something to do with the explosion
