PRIOR to 2005: AF Lall's first play, "No More Tigers", was a Noosa Arts Festival finalist (1984), scored a Best Actress award, and toured with Sunshine Coast Festival of Performing Arts. Lall refined her craft through community theatre workshop productions before turning professional in 1996 with "The Last Time I Saw Howard", which was performed in Melbourne, then in Bendigo in 1997, sponsored by Bendigo Arts Regional Council. This was followed by "Darkroom" (director Beng Oh) and "How to Love Wombats" (director Damien Pree) both at the Carlton Courthouse. POST-2005: Lall's short plays have been performed in several Melbourne short play seasons, also as part of Comedy Festival 2008 at Dante's, Fitzroy. In 2007, her one-act comedy/drama "Scuttlebutt" enjoyed a return season at Dante's, her short play "Falling From Grace" was part of Williamstown Theatre's Play Six season, and "Love Story 2007" was a finalist in the Sydney Short+Sweet Festival. It also won an AFC award for Script Most Likely to Make a Short Film. "Random Acts" (director Bruce Langdon) had its premiere season at Carlton Courthouse in October 2008. AWARDS/NOMINATIONS: Lall has been nominated three times by her peers (Melbourne Writers' Theatre) for the Wal Cherry Award for Best Unproduced Play ("Situation Critical", "Seeing The Elephant" and "Random Acts" ). In 2007 she received a Highly Commended certificate from the Fellowship of Australian Writers for a screenplay adaptation of her successful play "How to Love Wombats". She also received the Australian Film Commission Award for "Love Story 2007". The Love Story screenplay, "A Love Story", has been awarded an AFC grant of $120,000 to be produced as a short film, which will be shot in December 2008.
