Joe Lauinger's plays have been performed throughout the United States and in Canada, England, Australia, and India. Dirty Work was produced at the Alliance Repertory Theater in Los Angeles, CA, in 1995 and won Best Writing of the Year awarded by Backstage West. His one-acts have appeared at many festivals including the TANYS Festival of 2000 (Theater Association of New York State) where "What A Moon!", directed by Joe, won Best Short Production. "The Green Cheese Mystery" won the John V. Gurry Drama Competition for Best Short Play in 2001, awarded by Confrontation Magazine. "Rich on Skins" won Best Play at the Shortened Attention Span Festival at the Players Theatre in Greenwich Village in June 2007, and "The Chamberpot" won the Golden Curtain Award (Best of Festival) at the New Voice Play Festival 2008 at the Old Opera House in Charles Town, WV. "Mother's Day" was a finalist at the 1996 Humana Festival of the Actors Theatre of Louisville. Joe has had several full-length plays produced at Gallery Players, Brooklyn, including "A Wedding Album" and "Bury Him", which was commissioned by Gallery Players to celebrate the 10th anniversary of their Black Box Series. "The Pie Dialogues" under its earlier title of "Dawn and Sean" won Best Play at the Dayton Playhouse FutureFest 2007 in Dayton, Ohio. It was produced in 2009 by the Main Street Theater in Houston, Texas, and is published in Best Regional Plays 2011 by Level Four Press. "Michael Archangel" was the first winner of the Playwrights Discovery Award at the Fulton Theater in Lancaster, PA, and was produced there in April and Mary of 2011. An earlier version of "Holy Child" received a workshop performance at Gallery Players in Brooklyn in 2003. It was produced in 2012 by White Fence Productions in New York. Joe teaches dramatic literature at Sarah Lawrence College and is a member of the Dramatists Guild.

Holy Child

Synopsis:
Over a bottle of wine that "don't get empty" the four Di Camillo brothers reunite at their old neighbourhood restaurant. the youngest, Bernie, an upwardly mobile lawyer, who has successfully avoided his siblings for years, is again confronted by his disdain for them. His oldest brother Vic is an overweight businessman who never stops complaining. His middle brother, Patsy, is a high school gym teacher who has become romantically involved with a 15 year old student. But most shocking to Bernie is his brother, Tommy, an alcohol-addicted priest about to be banished from his calling and committed to a church institution for the wayward. as the evening wears on and the brothers re-visit the painful memories that have both divided and bonded them, each in his own way realizes that love is no protection from giving or receiving mortal wounds and even death provides no escape.
