Pete Lawson was born in Malawi, grew up in Birmingham, worked in Paris, and studied English Literature and Drama at Sheffield University. after working in young people's Theatre in London, aberdeen, Moscow, and Romania, Pete co-founded the Steam Factory before becoming Arts Council Writer in Residence for Gay Sweatshop. He has written two plays for BBC Radio 4, Melt and the Deep end, and for television he wrote the one-off ITV comedy, Sweet, followed by regular episodes of London Bridge and Casualty. In 1995, Pete was runner up for the inaugural Dennis Potter award. His original series, Being April, premiered on primetime BBC1 in 2002, topping the ratings. It has since sold across the world. His single television play Drive was shown on BBC1 in 2004 and won a Royal Television Society award. He currently writes for eastenders.
