Daniel is a playwright, composer and lyricist living in Brooklyn. A staged reading of Daniel's musical LUNA PARK (book), will be presented as part of the "From Page to Stage Festival" at the Tristan Bates Theatere, London in November 2016, a festival that will also feature the European premier of Lin-Manuel Miranda's "21 Chump Street." His show SPANDEX the MUSICAL debuted off-Broadway under the sponsorship of Crunch Fitness. His monologue, "Alt-Visions," was recently published in Applause Books' THE BEST AMERICAN SHORT PLAYS 2013-2014 alongside new works by John Guare and Neil Labute. Previous works, "What Really Happened--staring Abraham Lincoln," a historical reenactment gone wrong, and "A Glorious Evening," about a narcissist on a first date, were published in THE BEST AMERICAN SHORT PLAYS series in 2010 and 2008 respectively. Daniel's play, HEE-HAW: It's a Wonderful Li_e, a counter-telling of the holiday classic from the perspective of Sam Wainwright, was called a "delightful surprise" by the New York Times (Nuyorican Poets Café). His musical, TO PAINT THE EARTH, written with composer Jonathan Portera, won the Richard Rodgers Development Award (Stephen Sondheim, chair) and was selected for the 2008 New York Musical Theatre Festival (37 Arts). The show tells the story of the Jewish underground in the Warsaw Ghetto and the ultimate decision to fight back. His other works have been presented at La Mama, Long Wharf Theater, the 92nd Street Y, 13th Street Rep, and Dixon Place among others. Online, Daniels prose has been serialized at Frontier Pyschiatrist where "Fiddler in the Rough" and "Osnat's Story," (Editors Pick) exposed the dark underbelly of Israeli teen tours and Jewish summer camp, respectively. In 2011, he started the blog, nothing special, a support network for people dealing with the realization they may not be as special as they were led to believe. As a presenter, Daniel co-created and produced Wheres Darfur? at the Knitting Factory, a concert to raise awareness about the genocide and benefit the refugees in Darfur. The night raised $10,000 for relief work. Most recently he produced and wrote for "Variety Show on a Thursday," a music/dance/theatre/stand-up/animal acts* showcase that benefitted the Nuyorican Poets Cafe (*animal acts not guaranteed). Daniel served as a Jonathan Larson Memorial Fellow at the Dramatists Guild and is a MacDowell Colony fellow. He holds an MFA from NYU Tisch and a BA from Yale.

Hee-Haw: It's A Wonderful Li E
Synopsis:
everyone loves It's a Wonderful Life's hero, George Bailey. That's a fact. But what if a historically overlooked character, the outwardly clowning Sam Wainwright (who loses his girlfriend to George), were given the chance to tell his side of the story? Could he give voice to the people not quite at the center of their community, those less likable types who hold grudges, impress with money, sit on their jealousy. . .i.e., the rest of us? Part vaudeville comedy, part tragedy, Hee-Haw looks at the underbelly of Bedford Falls. . .those people who are at the fringe of their community.
