after having had many poems accepted for publication and winning awards alwyn turned her hand to writing a book of short stories and then her poetry book of jazz musings Join 'em On the Riff followed by Australia on the Riff. Her long interest in jazz led her to write Zeke, a play about a NY jazz musician and his long-suffering wifem which played seasons in Melbourne and NSW. Her award-winning play Gert and Daisy followed, then Four Different Women, a play centering around the strengths (and occasional weaknesses) of women from four very different walks of life. also extremely well received has been Bertha and Saxman, a monologue dedicated to the innate sagacity developed in women who somehow (usually because of time and place of birth) are unavoidably denied the benefits of education but pass with Honours the difficult lessons life hands them from the university of the streets . alwyn recently performed in the 2010 Devonport Festival of Jazz and Poetry, reading with award-winning actor Tony Barry and is currently preparing material for a further tour in 2012.

Gert And Daisy
Synopsis:
Daisy is around seventy years of age, she has bright red hair, is feisty, argumentative, demanding and is absolutely convinced she is the most intelligent member of her family. Currently she is recuperating from a hip replacement and is reliant on Gert, her younger sister for care, a situation she loathes. Never short of male attention, she has an Italian gentleman friend twenty years her junior who is presently travelling overseas, but unknown to Gert is never one to let the grass grow under her feet. Gert, two years younger than her sister is given to seeing things of a psychic nature. She secretly considers her older sister to be rather "coarse" and not open to experiencing the finer feelings. Stepping from one level of existence to another is child's play for Gertrude, especially with her newly acquired gentleman friend, met behind the shelves of the occult section of her local library.
