Barbara Lhota is an award-winning playwright as well as a screenwriter. the Studio's production of her play Third Person was selected by the Boston Herald as one of the top ten plays of the 1993-94 season. She was awarded the Harold and Mimi Steinberg award for playwriting for Hanging by a Thread at the Crawford Theater at Brandeis University. Green Skin, her collaboration with Ira Brodsky, was staged at the Producers' Club with Theatre asylum in New York. Most recently Barbara is the proud winner of the Babes with Blades' international playwriting competition Joining Sword and Pen for her play Los Desaparecidos: the Vanished. Her plays have been produced at various Theaters and universities across the country including the Ritz Theater in New Jersey, the American Stage Festival in New Hampshire, the New england Theater Conference, and the Wang Center in Boston. In addition, her shows have been performed at several off-off Broadway Theaters including Tribeca Lab, Madison avenue Theater, Love Creek Productions at the Nat Horne Theatre and the Phil Bosakowski Theater. She received her MFA in Dramatic Writing from Brandeis University, where she was an artist-in-residence and taught playwriting. Barbara now lives in Chicago, where she has had the opportunity to see Strangers and Romance, Family Portrait, Third Person , a Good Solid Home, Without You, acceptance Letter, the Good Son, Flyin' High, Morbid Curiosity, Personal Penchants, and the Nerdy Girl and the Intergalactic Dog produced. She has had productions or workshops with various Chicago companies which include artistic Home, Stage Left, Women's Theatre alliance, Griffin Theater, Circle Theatre Company, Theatre of Western Springs, Jupiter Theater, Bailiwick Repertory Theatre, Stockyards Theater, Naked earth, Rascal Children's Theater, Symposium, Camenae ensemble, and Theatre of Western Springs. Recently Ira and Barbara's screenplay, the Long Shot, was optioned e. Klaviter Productions, a writer and researcher on the hit show Grey's anatomy. Barbara's plays, Strangers and Romance, can be found in Smith and Kraus' Women Playwrights: the Best Plays of 2001 and two of her monologues are in the Best Male Monologues of 2001. She is the co-author of four collections of short play published by Smith and Kraus and entitled Forensics Series Volume 1-4. Synopsis:
after a half a dozen attempts at artificial insemination, Robert, 39 years old, and his wife Monica decided to adopt a child. a private agency put the couple in contact with angie, an 18 year-old girl who felt unable to care for her expected child. Monica and the pregnant mother quickly bonded via the phone and through letters. after some initial conversations over the phone, the couple arranged to adopt angie's unborn child. Throughout the remainder of angie's pregnancy, the adoptive parents asked the birth mother if she was certain about her decision. angie reassured them, and signed all necessary papers. It has now been two months since angie gave birth and handed the baby over to the adoptive couple. everything had been going smoothly until a week ago when angie suddenly called them. In this play, angie travels from New Jersey to Florida to confront the adoptive parents.

Good Son, The
Synopsis:
a year and a half ago, there was a senseless murder, when one boy killed another whom he didn't even know. Now Meryl, whose son, Ben, was killed, has asked Patrice to meet her at the local pancake house. It was Patrice's son Ty who was found guilty of the murder. Patrice assumes that Meryl wants to talk face-to-face with the mother of the "monster" who killed her son. Patrice is fully ready to face whatever scorn Meryl has for her and to apologize as best she can for what Ty has done. In reality, Meryl has received a letter from Patrice's younger son, adam, asking Meryl to reconsider their fight for the death penalty for his brother. In adam's letter some startling new facts are revealed.

Mating Habits Of Frogs
Synopsis:
alison, a lonely woman, awakens suddenly from a nap on her couch to find a strange but familiar-looking woman sitting in her living room. What's even stranger is the woman seems to be a hybrid of both alison's younger sister, Sylvia, and an animal Universe explorer named Robin Webb from the TV show "animal Universe." at first, the Sylvia/Robin hybrid woman narrates the mating habits of the Pseudarcris frog species, but soon, she starts discussing the courtship habits of humans like alison. She tells alison that it is never too late to sing out to those you love, just as the male frogs do during mating seasons. alison is shocked initial by the woman's sudden appearance but as the discussion continues, it becomes apparent that alison, who we find out is going through chemotherapy, is trying to sooth herself through this encounter.

Strangers
Synopsis:
a couple meet in a train station to play a game they have played for years. each time Madison and Maddie come here, they pretend to be a new set of strangers, meeting and attracting each other as if it's the very first time. Synopsis:
Through the years, Peter, 16 years old, has been given the daunting challenge of taking care of his autistic younger sister, Shelly, 14 years old. Shelly is a high-functioning autistic teenager who attends a special program in the local high school. Peter watches out for Shelly every day. He protects her from other kids, eases her tantrums, and makes sure she makes it to and from school. In the past few months, Peter has started to notice girls more. He is particularly interested in the new girl at school. He'd like to talk with her, but each time Shelly embarrasses him or comes between them. To make Peter's life worse, Shelly and Peter's parents have been fighting for weeks now. the word divorce has even come up. Peter knows that Shelly's autism has played a part in the tension. Synopsis:
Sarah, late 20's, a Harvard medical school student, has been feeling lousy-emotionally and physically. She has no time for herself and her residency is a constant challenge. Not too long ago, Sarah and her best friend Shirley moved out to live with her boyfriend. ever since then, Sarah has been depressed and lonely. Perhaps it's because she hasn't had a date in over a year or maybe it's the stress of school, or that she drives herself so hard-she just doesn't know. Of late, her depression and loneliness has driven her to desperate measures. Sarah has begun asking her friends to fix her up, and she has placed a personal ad. So far, none of the men have lived up to her expectations. and what's worse is that she has begun to have horrible nightmares that she cannot explain. as her best friend Shirley and Sarah start to dig further into what's wrong with Sarah, Sarah must admit and come to terms with a horrible event that has shook her life.

Synopsis:
Marilyn, 70's, and Jim, 80's, were very happily married for fifty-two years. they have been blessed with six lovely children and nine wonderful grandchildren. This past year Jim died unexpectedly while in Marilyn's care. It is nearing the end of the Christmas season and Marilyn is having a difficult time. She's talking on the phone with one of her daughters who is checking in with her. Marilyn always insists that her children call when they get back home to let her know they are safe and sound.
