While the parents anticipate a blissfully happy future their respective teenage sons, aleister and edward, look forward to a war of provocation with each other that they commence at the wedding feast. the passionate flames in this household are fanned by the interfering Gods of the Sun and the Moon who despite their good intentions cause an earthly battle between all the members of the new family. This work is set in an eerie pantomime world where the darker sides of fairy tales, nursery rhymes and the spirit of magic rule over rationality.

Art Of Memory, The

Synopsis:
as we worked on our scripts we both realised that we were exploring the same things but from different angles, my show is about things that have been lost, the things that are missing in the life of my character and why says Tenebris. 'Fiona is also doing the same but her show is about things we remember from history. 'I wanted to look at the New age and how it could be seen as a form of imperialism today and I got to thinking, dont we now just go around the world appropriating other religions and beliefs to fill our spiritual void just as the British empire took over countries to fill our material needs in the nineteenth century says Fiona. anubian Nights theatre Company maintains its somewhat maverick and irreverent take on life in producing these shows which will be stimulating, thought provoking and also include a fair share of belly laughs.

Echo Of Your Last Goodbye, The

Synopsis:
a father grieving over the loss of his wife tries to understand the world his errant son lives in. Having missed his mother's funeral the son returns to his father's house for an unannounced visit after an absence of seven years. Set in a musty garage, and surrounded by old boxes full of family memories and forgotten childhood toys, the two protagonists embark on a marathon drinking bout as they desperately battle to connect with each other and make sense of their past, present and future together. Tenebris Light was inspired to write this claustrophobic, two-hander after noting a glut of newspaper reports about fathers killing their sons, sons killing their fathers and fathers and sons committing joint suicides. Further inspiration came from the autobiography of the english poet and writer edmund Gosse (Father & Son) and the bleak music-hall song that provides the title for the play.

It's My Funeral And I'll Cry If I Want To

Synopsis:
the day doesn't start well for Laurence, he knew that he was sick with aIDS-related illnesses but he hadn't quite expected to wake up in a coffin. Things go from bad to worse as he comes to realise that he really is dead and that his mother has had him dressed in a backless, nylon shroud - an outfit that no well-dressed gay corpse around town would care to be seen dead in! the arrival of the angel of Death in the guise of a 1920's torch singer does little to reassure him and the two engage in a battle of wills, songs and words as she tries to convince him that his time truly is up and he must go with her. Told with wit, insight, tears and laughter and based on the writer's experiences as a palliative care-worker for friends with AIDS, this play really does speak from the heart.

Liberaces Suit

Synopsis:
In 1959 the American entertainer Liberace brought a libel action against the english tabloid newspaper the Daily Mirror. a Mirror columnist William Connor (writing under the pseudonym Cassandra) had virtually accused Liberace of being gay and as homosexuality was still illegal in the UK at that time, Liberace was forced to defend himself. the resulting Old Bailey trial was a high-camp farce with Liberace and many of his supporters lying through their teeth. as Martin Duberman so succinctly pointed out; 'To survive, he had to live a double life keeping his sexual trysts and love affairs with men secret. even so, the rumours spread, and only Liberace's brazen denials (and the sloppy research of the press) kept the rumours from being confirmed as truth.' Based on contemporary reports and a great deal of research, LIBeRaCe'S SUIT is a brilliant reconstruction of Liberace's performance of a lifetime in an english courtroom!

Paki Boy

Synopsis:
Birmingham in the mid-1970's is not a great place to live if you are a young, gay Pakistani boy whose interests include painting his eyes with khol and miming to television programmes such as Top of the Pops. escaping from his older white lover who treats him like an exotic trophy, he hitches a lift to London where he hopes his life can really begin. London offers an opportunity for him to indulge his most extreme fantasies and to get involved with the early Gay Liberation Movement. One night, at a disco in a damp pub cellar he finds his vocation; the kathak dance and perhaps his true love in the guise of the aloof and glamorous arunesh. This one man show blends Drama, comedy, classical Indian dance, curry queens, high art, low dives, sex, drugs and Lou Reed into a dazzling potpourri of colour and sound. PaKI BOY was commissioned by the kathak dancer and performer Zahid Dar who directed and starred in the London premiere despite threats from extreme religious zealots to burn the theatre down. . ..

Spinning

Synopsis:
In 1956, in the freezing rain of a harsh winter, two men encounter each other in a London Square where homosexuals gather after dark. One thinks he has found everything that he has ever wanted in a lover while the other thinks he has found a quick sexual encounter. For a year this mis-matched couple love and hate each other until the pressures of the times they live in force them apart. Over forty years later the repercussions of this relationship finally catch up with them as they find their lives still entwined and wildly spinning out of control. Influenced by the movement of the Whirling Dervish dance, the magickal philosophy of aleister Crowley and a nostalgia for the english seaside resorts of the 1950's, SPINNING is widely regarded as Tenebris Light's greatest writing achievement to date.

Tiny Tim In the House Of Freaks

Synopsis:
In the late 1950's, one of the attractions that could be viewed at HUBeRT'S MUSeUM (a freak-show not far from Times Square in New York) was 'Larry Love the Singing Canary Man'. By 1968 'Larry Love' had re-invented himself and was an international musical sensation called TINY TIM. Tiny Tim spent a year working as a professional freak and this play explores the love/hate relationship he developed with the tiny, introverted and closed world of freaks. Constantly challenged by the King of the Freaks (a 'real' freak born with no arms as opposed to a 'self-created' freak such as the Tattooed Woman) Tiny Tim is forced to explore what it means to be a true outsider.
