Calling All Angels
Synopsis:
Calling All Angels was written in 1999 after many weeks of consultation, workshops and group discussions with twenty young people (aged 12-18) from the Hepburn Shire. The group wanted the play to focus on issues dealing with belonging, home, moving on and death. They wanted it to be humorous, colourful, exciting and involve a variety of performance mediums. They wanted something that would appeal to children, teenagers and adults. The final shows involved fire twirling, actors arriving on boats, songs, dance, music, party people dressed in lavish silver fabric and was staged on the banks of Lake Daylesford. Six local musicians gave their time and talents voluntarily to the project in order to create 'The Angels' band. The audience arrived at dusk with picnic baskets, bottles of wine and blankets and sat on the steps of the old dressing sheds to watch the show. This was the first time that the lake had been used for a theatrical event. Many of the participants in Calling All Angels have gone on to work with Rebecca in a variety of performances, workshops and classes.

Gloucester Street
Synopsis:
Set in an ordinary street in an ordinary Australian city, Gloucester Street tells the story of a small group of people: an aging couple who have lived in the same house all their married lives; a single mother with five children; a busybody shop keeper; an isolated young man; three people trying to make their share house work; a lonely single woman; a couple of runaways hiding out in the squat. The only thing they have in common is their desire to call the terrace houses of Gloucester Street home. . .So when the mayor and his business associates decide to tear down the terraces in order to build a new high-rise residential building, the welfare of the residents is suddenly at stake.
Notes:
Originally written for the Hepburn Shir's 'No Place Like Home' community youth arts project, Gloucester Street has a large cast for predominantly young actors (aged 1218) and is an opportunity for an innovative set design and a variety of music and rap.

In Darkness and in Secrecy
Synopsis:
In Darkness and In Secrecy is based on the 1864 murder of Margaret Graham, which unfolded in the towns of Daylesford, Castlemaine and Ballarat. This was the thirteenth murder in thirteen years on the Daylesford Gold Fields. The person who stood trial and was subsequently found guilty and hanged for the murder in 1866 was a vagabond traveler named David Young. Young was the first person to be hanged at the Castlemaine Gaol. This story has always created community debate as to whether Young was in fact guilty. According to community folklore and the newspaper of the time, The Daylesford Mercury, Margarets husband George allegedly confessed to the murder on his deathbed.
